Take note:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Steve taught us:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;1&lt;/b&gt;. Men can die at a young age.  Steve was 56. Today, the average age of death for a man, is 78.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;2.&lt;/b&gt; You don't have to be a college graduate to be a Billionaire.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;3.&lt;/b&gt; Money alone, cannot fix your health.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;4.&lt;/b&gt; Follow your heart, when everyone else around you doesn't agree with you.  Steve dropped out of college, with no plan in place, even though his parents had saved all their money and his blood mother made it mandatory he go to college.  By NOT going to college, Steve learned more important things during that time period, which set up and established the company we know as Apple.  Had he not dropped out, those events would not have led to Apple's great success.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;5.&lt;/b&gt; Steve's 2005 Stanford commencement speech:  "We cannot connect the dots of the future.  We can only connect the dots of our past.  Take a look at what's gotten you up to this point in your life.  There are no accidents.  Follow your heart, wherever it's leading you.  It knows what its doing.  Trust yourself."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;6.&lt;/b&gt; Take risks even though you don't know the outcome.  It's the fun of the risk that's life's recipe, not the final destination.  The MAC was born out of an idea, which had never been done and which all his critics said would be a failure and a bad idea.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;b&gt;7.&lt;/b&gt; Apple's stock price was $5 a share just 3 years ago.  Now it trades over $400 per share.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Steve Jobs was a Visionary, among other things.  We do well to follow his basic tenets in life, that includes simple, human foundational traits, which we sometimes forget we own;  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Follow your heart.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Take risks.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Be who you were born to be, by not following anyone else.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Ride life as hard as you can, till it's over.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;i&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Share who you are with the world, no matter what that looks like.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span"&gt;Steve is greatly missed and we will appreciate his contributions well into future generations. Most all Training Programs offered by companies today, make one huge major mistake, which affects the results desired and compromises the overall success, in doing the training in the first place. This is true whether you have an in-house training program already in place or have hired a 3rd party company with a ''CANNED" program to come in and facilitate the training. Also, it doesn't matter what subject you are training, whether it's Management Skills, Customer Service, Technology, Sales Training, Self Motivation, Customer Relations, Human Resources or anything else. This #1 Mistake is true of them all.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;The #1 Mistake Company's make within their training programs is, "INFORMATION OVERLOAD". Too much information, given to recipients within too short a time period. Think about the last training program you attended or even perhaps taught, presented or prepared. I promise you, there is ALWAYS too much information to be covered. John F. Kennedy said, &lt;em&gt;“Public Speaking is the art of diluting a 2 minute idea, with a 2 hour vocabulary.”&lt;/em&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Our surveys indicate that people who go through training programs, retain less than 2% of what they learn, within 90 days (3 months)! The #1 reason, is that there is too much useless information given, that will never be used, remembered or retained. As a result, the training sessions are way too long in length and most participants get bored and uninterested very quickly. For some reason, training companies feel they have to inundate participants with tons of information, graphs, studies, quotes, stories, philosophies, videos, &lt;span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error"&gt;dvd's&lt;/span&gt;, booklets, posters and all kinds of things, in order to justify their fees.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;In addition to information overload, the #2 mistake, is "Speaker In-effectiveness". This becomes particularly important when companies use their own people to present and teach information. In most cases, the people on the receiving end, get the shaft, because the people presenting are NOT professional presenters, speakers or teachers. Most of the time, they're doing it "because they have to", not because they "want to" and as a result it's the "blind leading the blind". Oh they make it through it, but why bother doing it at all? In some cases, it's more advantageous to use your own people to present the material, but not in most cases. Like the old saying, "If you're gonna take the time to do it, why not do it RIGHT the first time." Using your own, in-house people may save a few bucks, but it decreases the &lt;span id="SPELLING_ERROR_2" class="blsp-spelling-error"&gt;effectiveness&lt;/span&gt; of the training by as much as 90% and costs you more money down the road.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:trebuchet ms;"&gt;Hiring 3rd party training companies usually gets you better quality speakers and your company employees who attend, usually enjoy it more and retain much more information. However, you usually pay a hefty price in fees and more importantly, lose control of the content presented, due to it being "canned" - getting back to the issues surrounding the #1 Mistake, I talked about earlier. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Trebuchet MS;"&gt;So what's the solution? Well, let me put in a plug for my personal approach, after 20+ years of working in the training &amp;amp; consulting market. Why should you be on Facebook, LinkedIn &amp;amp; Twitter?  I get this question from people every week.  Here are a few upsides and downsides to consider for each of these social networking sites.  The answer is - You don't have to be on any of them.  However, if you know a little about each, they can be the most powerful tool there is, in connecting and communicating with people locally and worldwide. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Facebook&lt;/strong&gt; estimates the number of users to date to be over 100 million.  &lt;strong&gt;LinkedIn&lt;/strong&gt; is over 50 million and &lt;strong&gt;Twitter&lt;/strong&gt; 18 million.  All three are growing very rapidly and Free to join.  There are many other sites, but these 3 sites are the bread and butter of connecting with people.  Facebook started out as primarily a personal networking site, comparable to MySpace.  The average age of users is higher and has morphed into a huge business advertising site as well.  LinkedIn was created primarily for business and professional connections to expand careers, job opportunities and all business related subjects.  Twitter also combines personal and business interests, but with a shorter format for connecting via a short 140 character limit to sending and receiving messages.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;Many people worry about their privacy on these sites, fearing that people may know too much information about them and especially being exposed on the worldwide net.  However, each site allows you to set up filters, which are easy to regulate exactly what you want other people to see or access.  You may only allow what you want to be seen and by whom, thus protecting your self about information you deem confidential.  &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Facebook&lt;/strong&gt; is great for connecting with your friends present and past.  You may keep up-to-date with people you've known for years.  Perhaps, you haven't seen or heard from a classmate from your younger years.  Perhaps you don't even know they're even alive?  Then suddenly you find them on Facebook or they find you.  It's also great for finding and communicating with distant or close family members.  Pictures and videos can be shared as well.  Your profile information can allow your friends to get to know more about who you are personally and professionally and you get to know them better, as well.  Haven't talked to someone in 20 years?  Find them on Facebook and reconnect!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;LinkedIn&lt;/strong&gt; is one of the most powerful business networking tools in the world.  I tell everyone I know, to join LinkedIn whether you own your own business or work for a company or both.  LinkedIn is so important that most companies today, first check to see if you're on LinkedIn before they hire you as an employee, hire you for a contract position or just want to check you as a reference for anything.  It's one of the things they do first in any of these instances.  The format allows you to post your resume, background, specialties, experience, education, groups, interests and more.  I personally, have gained new business and clients from others finding me and my company, via LinkedIn.  When I want to check a person or company out first before doing business or hiring someone to do work, I first go to LinkedIn to learn about them.  When you think LinkedIn, think business.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Twitter&lt;/strong&gt; is a quick way to share news with the world.  It's a short format that has long range networking capabilties.  You may share a one sentence announcement and literally thousands of people can see it.  Connections build on connections very rapidly.  The downside to Twitter, is that most people share lots of worthless information, which makes it somewhat annoying to keep up with.  In other words, too many unimporant twitters.  Most people don't care what you did 14 times during the day, such as getting stuck in traffic or waving to your neighbor.  However, it is a  great tool for connecting to many people in a short amount of time.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:verdana;font-size:85%;"&gt;At the very least, I'd recommend getting on Facebook and LinkedIn.  The world is rapidly growing in these two venues.  The advantages are huge and the downside is practically non-existent.  It's not only fun, but has money, business and career implications, which can be to your advantage in a number of ways.  The old saying, "It's Who You Know" that's important, is powerfully driven home, by utilizing these simple social networking sites to your advantage.  You can enhance your exposure to the world, with just a few clicks and at the same time, learn loads of information about others, as well.  The power of "effectively networking and communicating" has never been stronger and easier to do, than it is today.  Snooze and loose, is your choice.  Have some fun with it.
